Taught to Pray

The Pharisees stood where all could see,
Their voices rose in piety.
But hearts were proud, their praise was loud,
Not meant for God, but for the crowd.

My Lord said softly, “Go inside,
And shut the door with Me confide.
Your Father hears each heartfelt word,
Though none but heaven’s ears are stirred.”

I’ll pray in secret, night or day,

“Your will be done, Your name be praised,
Jehovah, bless my steps always.”

Jehovah sees what lies within—
