Prompt / Lyrics
[Intro- Heavy, side-chained synthesizer bass pulsating. Glitchy. A drum and bass breakbeat starts fast, then slows down into a half-time stomp.] [Instrumental solo- droptuned guitars and bass slam with heavy and intense drums] [Screamed] Relapse! [Verse 1- Music drops to a moody synth pad and a simple trap beat. Vocals are low, almost spoken-word/mumbled] Reset the counter. Back to zero days. I watched the progress turn into a haze. I swore I flushed the memories down the sink, But I’m thirsty, and you’re the only drink. The recovery was going so well, Until I realized I was bored of avoiding hell. I’m scratching at the walls of this empty room, Craving the comfort of impending doom. [Pre-Chorus- Guitars swell in with a chorus effect. Vocals jump an octave, becoming desperate and melodic.] My hands are shaking, can you make it stop? I’m dangling off the edge, waiting for the drop. One taste. One touch. Is that too much? [Chorus- Massive, stadium-ready sound. Huge saw-wave synths layered with distorted guitars. The melody is an earworm pop hook, sung with grit.] I’m diving back into the deep end! Just to feel the pressure in my chest! I know it kills me, but I need a friend, And you’re the poison that I love the best! Call the doctor, tell him that I’m through! Yeah, I’m overdosing on you! It’s a relapse! (It’s a relapse!) [Verse 2- Beat changes to a bouncy, nu-metal groove. Bass is fuzzy and aggressive. Vocals are rap-influenced and rhythmic.] Okay, cut the act. I’m a maniac, and that’s a matter of fact. My serotonin is on strike again, I’m looking for a lover who can play the villain. You’re not the cure, you’re the disease, But I’m begging on my bloody knees, “Baby, please.” Inject the chaos right into the vein, Anything to short-circuit the brain. [Chorus- Full energy] I’m diving back into the deep end! Just to feel the pressure in my chest! I know it kills me, but I need a friend, And you’re the poison that I love the best! Call the doctor, tell him that I’m through! Yeah, I’m overdosing on you! It’s a relapse! [Bridge- Music cuts to a lone, reverberated clean guitar and atmospheric pads. Vocals are soft, falsetto, and haunting.] The withdrawal was a violent art... But the relapse is stopping my heart. I don’t want to be saved. I just want to be enslaved. [Drums begin a rapid snare roll, building tension] I can’t stop... I won’t stop... I CAN’T STOP! [Breakdown- The sound glitches out into pure noise before slamming into a massive, slow, rhythmic riff.] GET OUT OF MY HEAD! YOU’RE IN THE BLOODSTREAM! [Low, guttural growl] THERE IS NO cure! THERE IS NO cure! JUST THE SICKNESS! YEAH! [Screamed] Re Lapse Re Lapse Re Lapse Relapse! [Instrumental breakdown] [Instrumental solo] [Outro- Heavy guitars fade out into the pulsating synth bass from the intro. Vocals are heavily processed and fading away.] Back to zero. Back to zero. (Relapse...)
