Growing up, my parents made the rules,
I broke them all and paid my dues.
Then I struck out on my own,
With a rule book I called my own.
I bent the truth to suit my plans,
Ignored God's will with reckless hands.
I did what seemed so right to me,
But every choice came with a fee.
Now I stand upon God's Word,
The greatest truth I've ever heard.
The Bible lights my wandering way,
With mercy new for every day.
I'll never be all I should be,
But Jesus gave His life for me.
When I fall, His grace remains—
The cross has broken all my chains.
The Bible sat upon the shelf,
While I believed only in myself.
I chased the things this world called gold,
Till empty hands were all I'd hold.
Then God spoke softly to my heart,
His living Word gave me a start.
The pages I had left unread
Became the path my Savior led.
It's not by works or what I've done,
Salvation came through God's own Son.
His Word is faithful, tried, and true;
Each morning His mercies are made new.
Now I stand upon God's Word,
The greatest truth I've ever heard.
The Bible lights my wandering way,
With mercy new for every day.
Though I fail, He won't let go;
His love is stronger than I know.
I'll follow Him until I see
The One who gave His life for me.
