I tried to hold your hand through your darkest times. I tried to pick you up off the floor last night. Thought I could sell my soul to save your life, but it almost cost me mine. I forgave your lies like I always do. I swept them under the rug just to hide the truth so no one would know just how far I would go. Out of sight out of mind.
But I didn’t know that I was wasting my time, loving your heart and ways you didn’t love mine. There was nothing left to say that could make it OK, but I convinced myself to stay anyway.
I was faking my way through every day when the therapist said girl you know you can’t save him. He’s gonna drag you down. You won’t lift him up. That doesn’t mean you’re not enough, but every time I left, I kept going back, ignored the red flags and advice that I had you had me fall in my knees again begging please again for a change that would never last.
And it took me years to know that I was wasting my time, loving your heart and Waze you couldn’t love mine chance after chance never changed anything, but I convinced myself to stay anyway.
I thought we could be fixed if I just took the blame for the things that you did to me I lived in shame. I carried it all for us, took the fall for us, but you nearly made me go insane. The therapist said girl get out of your head if you keep going back, you’ll probably end up dead. You gotta let yourself feel then let yourself heal. Just give it time you’ll be glad you left.
But I didn’t know how to get by on my own and I didn’t know if I could ever let go
But finally, I stopped wasting my time, loving your heart and ways you’d never loved mine fake apologies and empty promises made me wanna stay, but I convinced myself to leave anyway yes, I convinced myself to leave anyway I convinced myself to leave anyway
