“This Is My Body” (The Last Supper)
(A spoken prayer to the audience)
O God, who have called us to participate in this most sacred Supper, in which your Only Begotten Son, when about to hand himself over to death, entrusted to the Church a sacrifice new for all eternity, the banquet of his love, grant, we pray, that we may draw from so great a mystery, the fullness of charity and of life ...in Jesus name amen! Praise the Lord!
(Verse 1)
The room was still, the night was near
We gathered close, His voice so clear
The bread was broken, the cup was poured
We felt the weight of the coming Lord
He said, “One of you will betray
Before the night gives way to day”
Our hearts grew heavy, our eyes grew wide
Still He spoke with love inside
(Chorus)
This is My body, broken for you
This is My blood, the covenant true
Do this in memory, remember the cost
The Lamb will be slain to seek the lost
Take and eat, take and drink
Know the Father’s heart is nearer than you think
(Verse 2)
He washed our feet, the Master’s hand
Served the least, the Son of Man
He said, “A new command I give
Love one another as I have lived”
We sang a hymn, then left that place
But I still see the look on His face
A love so deep it could not flee
Even knowing Gethsemane
(Chorus)
This is My body, broken for you
This is My blood, the covenant true
Do this in memory, remember the cost
The Lamb will be slain to seek the lost
Take and eat, take and drink
Know the Father’s heart is nearer than you think
(Bridge)
The bread and wine, the sacred sign
Of mercy poured for all of time
A table set in the shadow of the cross
Where the world will gain what heaven lost
(Final Chorus)
This is My body, broken for you
This is My blood, the covenant true
Do this in memory, remember the cost
The Lamb will be slain to seek the lost
Take and eat, take and drink
Know the Father’s heart is nearer than you think
