Ember-rest

Smoke in the ribs of night, a little spark inside

Charred memories flicker, tides of ember guide

I walk the edge where shadows drip like molten gold

Footsteps echo on ashes, stories never told

Cinders drift in silence, tiny moons of glow

I cradle a memory where the quiet fires grow

The heat hums a lullaby only nocturnes hear

A bed of embers breathing, warm and near

I lean in closer, feel the pulse in the coal

A heartbeat in the darkness, a secret in my soul

The night leans in with a coppery sigh

Flames curl their fingers, tracing answers in the sky

Eyes half closed, I watch the glow paint my fate

Whispers of warmth slipping through the iron gate

Scattered sparks sneeze in the breath of wind

Every spark a wish I never quite begin

I breathe in the copper, I breathe out the ash

In this small furnace, I learn to crash and dash

The glow dresses my silhouette in copper lace

A temporary sunrise on a closed-off face
