Standing alone on a lonely shore,
Alone on a lonely island;
Gazing helpless into empty blue,
My ship crest's the horizon;
And disappears from view:
Without me.
Many ships have beckoned through the years,
"Leave the island and its heavy dues",
But freedom's winds must surely send,
Finer ships from which to choose,
When loneliness will end.
So it seemed.
But tomorrow paid for choices yesterday,
And opportunities fade,
Into endless wait.
Blue water and sky collide,
Tide lapping naked toes,
Alone on a lonely island,
Praying helpless into empty blue,
For ships on the horizon.
