FIVE TIMES — BUT HE LEFT ME HERE
Hard Gospel Testimony / Mass Choir
[Spoken Intro — low, almost like a confession]
Before you judge me…
You better understand where I came from.
I wasn’t always praying.
I wasn’t always calling on Jesus.
I robbed people.
I hurt people.
I took from people who trusted me.
I broke the hearts of the ones who loved me most.
I lived by the gun…
And one night, that same life came looking for me.
Five shots.
And somehow…
I’m still here.
[Verse 1 — Lead]
I came from a world where your heart gotta freeze,
Where showing any weakness bring you down to your knees.
I learned how to survive before I learned how to pray,
Learned to carry that darkness like it showed me the way.
I done robbed, I done hurt, I done crossed every line,
Had blood on my hands and revenge on my mind.
Made my family cry while I called myself strong,
Now I’m looking in the mirror asking, “Where did I go wrong?”
Mama tried to warn me, but I wouldn’t hear,
People tried to love me, I pushed ‘em out of fear.
I thought being ruthless was the only way to live,
Now I’m begging You, Jesus…
Teach me how to forgive.
[Choir — softly]
Teach him how to forgive…
Teach him how to live…
Lord, don’t let his past
Take the life You chose to give.
[Verse 2 — Lead builds]
Five bullets hit me, thought my time had come,
I heard the shots ringing, then my whole body went numb.
Laying there bleeding with my face toward the sky,
For the first time in my life…
I was scared to die.
I couldn’t call my money.
Couldn’t call my gun.
Couldn’t call the streets
For the things that I had done.
All that reputation couldn’t stop that blood,
And the hardest man alive found himself calling God.
[Lead — crying out]
I said, “JESUS!
If You let me make it through,
I swear I’m gonna try to give this life back to You!”
[Choir — explosion]
HE LEFT YOU HERE!
(He left me here!)
FIVE TIMES COULDN’T TAKE YOU!
(Couldn’t take me!)
DEATH HAD YOUR NAME—
BUT GOD SAID, “NOT TODAY!”
[Chorus — Full Mass Choir]
Five times, but He left me here!
Five wounds, but I’m standing here!
I should’ve been gone,
But mercy said NO!
I got a criminal mind
Trying to hold my soul,
But Jesus, if You help me,
I’m ready to let it go!
I WANT TO CHANGE!
(Change me, Lord!)
BUT THE OLD ME WON’T DIE!
(Kill that old man inside!)
Every time I walk toward You,
My past keeps pulling me behind.
So I’m crying—
CHANGE MY HEART!
CHANGE MY MIND!
CHANGE MY WAYS!
Lord, don’t let me waste
This second chance You gave!
[Verse 3 — darker, vulnerable]
But Lord, here’s the part that nobody understands…
I survived the shooting,
But I still got that criminal in me.
Somebody disrespect me—
The old me starts talking.
Somebody cross me—
My mind starts plotting.
I hear that voice saying,
“You know how we handle that.”
And another voice whispers,
“Son… you ain’t gotta go back.”
I’m caught between the man that I was
And the man I’m trying to be,
Between these streets that raised me
And the God that’s calling me free.
