Prompt / Lyrics
Somewhere deep, beneath the trees, where sunlight scarce could pass, Lived Ratfolk parents, pulling leaves, to warm their humble class. Seven little shadows, swift and quick, with Jeek the youngest one, All dreamed of trading, stick by stick, beneath the rising sun. Oh, the simple life they planned for her, the honest path they made. Like the other six, her parents’ fixed, her to carry on the trade. But Her hands were small, her heart was bright, and restless was her mind. Jíík longed for color, power and light, to brighten up the sky. Chorus: Beware The cinder-kissed Rat! The rodent with the scar! Jíík the Rogue, The Little Shadow, The thief of ash and fire She steals and she kills with a cold and wicked grin, for the smell of smoke and missing gold point to Jíík the Vermin! The family slept, the hearth was low, The merchant work was done. Then Jíík crept out where powders glow to have her own mischief and fun. She studied and mixed like an Alchemist to her little heart’s delight. To help her family put on a show with color and sparks and lights. She thought “I can help with the Trade! I’ll bring in more folks! I’ll put on a bright display!” But somewhere somehow in all her work, she’d make a great mistake… Chorus: Beware The cinder-kissed Rat! The rodent with the scar! Jíík the Rogue, The Little Shadow, The thief of ash and fire She steals and she kills with a cold and wicked grin, for the smell of smoke and missing gold point to Jíík the Vermin! A sudden BOOM! a blinding flash, a shriek where silence lay. The simple home turned ‘to embers before the light of day. Her siblings trapped within the wood, consumed by inferno haze, She stood confused and horrified, Her home now burst to flame. Then her Father crawled out, among the blaze, half-charred and full of spite! He shouted and cursed and struck his child with all his strength and might! Then he did what no parent would, blind of rage and pain. He shouted the word, the bitterest sound, and cast her into the flame! Bridge: She fled the scene, with tears and burns, her life forever charred. The word her father cursed her with, left her mind and body scarred. Now twenty years of age, alone, she walks in shadowed lands. Stealing maidens’ hearts, silver and gold with quick and quiet hands. But hear this truth: let no man speak the word that broke her heart. So lock your doors, and hold your tongue or she’ll rip your flesh apart! She's driven mad by memory's sting, and the curse her father gave, So if the word leaves your feeble tongue she’ll send you to your grave… Chorus Beware The cinder-kissed Rat! The rodent with the scar! Jíík the Rogue, The Little Shadow, The thief of ash and fire She steals and she kills with a cold and wicked grin, for the smell of smoke and missing gold point to Jíík the Vermin!
