Prompt / Lyrics
The neon fades on George Street, the city's winding down, I check my watch and curse the time, still stuck here in this town. The last train out of Sydney should’ve left an hour ago, But steel wheels sit in silence, nowhere left to go. One hour and twenty, still waiting in the night, Signals stuck on red, no end to this in sight. A train ahead’s gone broken, we’re stranded on the line, The last train out of Sydney, running far behind. The station’s full of weary souls, all pacing up and down, Conductors shrug, "no answers yet," just echoes in this town. I should be halfway home by now, the coastline in my view, But I’m still here in Central, caught up in the queue. One hour and twenty, still waiting in the night, Signals stuck on red, no end to this in sight. A train ahead’s gone broken, we’re stranded on the line, The last train out of Sydney, running far behind. The rain begins to trickle down, reflecting city lights, Tired eyes stare at the rails, wishing for green lights. A voice comes through the speakers, "Hold tight, we’ll make a move," But time keeps crawling past us, with nothing left to prove. Now finally we’re rolling slow, the city fades away, The echoes of delay still hum, but I’ll get home today. One hour and twenty later, but I’m still on my way, The last train out of Sydney, just another long delay.
