North Star

God gave me steady hands and a mind that loves to know,

Why the gears keep turning and which way the rivers flow.

I can spot a broken engine, tell you why a bridge stands tall,

But when it came to people, I understood nothing at all.

My compass must've been broken, spinning circles in the dark,

Leading me through wrong turns, leaving scars upon my heart.

I wandered roads I shouldn't, chased things I should've left behind,

Convinced that I was worthless, with no true course to find.

You are my North Star, shining steady in the night,

Pointing true when I get lost and can't tell wrong from right.

God must have made you for me, that's the only thing I know,

Because you've been following Him, and that's the way I want to go.

When the clouds roll in around me and I can't see very far,

I lift my eyes and find my way by looking at my North Star.

You saw something in me that I never could believe,

A better man beneath the doubts I always wore upon my sleeve.

You showed me I was worth more than the failures of my past,

And for the first time in my life I found something built to last.

Now I walk with better purpose, my feet on steadier ground,

Learning how to trust the path that God's been laying down.

My compass still ain't perfect, and sometimes I drift apart,

But your faith keeps pulling me back to where I need to start.

You are my North Star, shining steady in the night,

Because you've been following Him, and that's the way I want to go.

Not because I need directions every minute anymore,

But because your light reminds me what I'm walking toward.

You are my North Star, constant as the Father's love,

A little piece of grace sent down from Heaven up above.

God must have made you for me, that's the story of my heart,

He took a man with no direction and gave him a guiding star.

And wherever life may lead us, near or far apart,

I'll always thank the Lord above for my North Star.
