Before the Pause

I miss the handshakes out in the sun

The crowded streets where we’d laugh and run

Faces unmasked lit up by the glow

Of a world that spun fast not so long ago

Oh the years before we slowed it all down

A busy heart in a bustling town

When the air was lighter and the world felt wide

Now it’s echoes and shadows where it used to reside

I miss the chaos the noise the sway

Of a life where we weren’t afraid to stray

Dinner table full all squeezed in tight

We were reckless together but it felt so right

Every hug every smile the way we’d collide

With strangers in lines we had nothing to hide

Now there’s a distance that lingers like frost

Oh how I long for the days we’ve lost

Oh the years before we slowed it all down

Where laughter splashed across the town

The clocks didn’t tick this heavy inside

We were careless dreamers we didn’t divide

Someday the sun will shine that way once more

And we’ll open our arms like we did before

But till then I hold these whispers near

The years I miss the ones so clear
