My flesh my bones

I stumbled down that Old Town road,

With whiskey breath and a heavy load.

The devil's whispers in my ear,

Promising freedom, feeding my fear.

Nights of powder, pills, and wine,

Drowning memories I claimed weren’t mine.

A hollow shell, I’d lost control,

The devil laughed, he’d take my soul.

But oh, I fought, I clawed, I cried,

Looked that darkness dead in the eye.

Through the fire, I stood alone,

And claimed my heart, my flesh, my bone.

I saw my mama’s tears one night,

A spark within reigniting light.

Her prayers broke chains that held me tight,

I found a will, I chose to fight.

The devil shrieked as I broke away,

His grip grew weaker at break of day.

I faced my sins, they tore me apart,

But grace and grit revived my heart.
