A New Electorate

When we called for liberty,

The government issued a stern decree:

"You've lost our trust," those big men said,

"You'll work twice as hard to earn your bread."

Of a life that's free and fair,

But the powers that be just don't care.

They sent out writers to spread the word—

"Obey your leaders" is all that we heard.

Leaflets like rain from a cloudy sky,

Demanding obedience, but now we are wise.

The rulers hatched a different plan:
