Shingles and Shadows

Rain's fallen hard, the sky's a mirror of my mind

Shadows cast by shingles, leaving the past behind

Walking up the ladder, eyes scanning the gray

Cracks like scars beneath the sun, memories of yesterday

Found the damage hidden, out of sight, under the weight

A silent scream of wood and weight, it’s time to face my fate

Filing all my hopes and fears, paperwork and tears

Waiting on the hold, a story told in anxious years

Build me back from broken dreams, tear away the pain

Replace the shattered pieces and start again

Underneath the storm and rain, I stand exposed

Just like my roof, I need to find my home enclosed

Insurance calls like echoes in my mind

Promises of renewal, but clarity I can't find

Step by step, nail by nail, piece by piece

In the chaos, I seek a fragile peace

Rain’s subsiding now, a new dawn to embrace

Rebuilding what was lost, a quiet, hopeful place

Though the cracks still linger, I’ll mend and grow

With every shingle laid, I learn to let go
