Prompt / Lyrics
It started in a crowded classroom, Passing notes and killing time. Two friends laughing through the boredom, Nothing special on my mind. Then came those Thursday evenings, Walking streets with all our friends. Music spilling, stories endless, Moments I wished wouldn’t end. Somewhere in the middle of the laughter, Something quietly changed for me. Now every look and every word Feels like more than it should be. On those Thursday nights, Under city lights, You’re just laughing with our friends, And everything feels right. But I keep it deep inside, Hidden out of sight, Because losing you as a friend Would hurt more than love tonight. You tell stories, lean a little closer, Say my name without a clue. Every word feels like a spark, But it only burns for you. You talk about the boys you like, Like it’s nothing, like it’s air. And I smile like it’s all normal, While my heart stays over there. Maybe loving you in silence Is the safest place to stay. Some feelings aren’t meant to grow If they take a friend away. On those Thursday nights, Under neon skies, You’re just dancing with our friends, And I’m hiding in plain sight. You see someone safe, You see someone kind, Just a girl walking beside you, Not the storm inside my mind. If I told you how I feel, Would it all fall apart? Would laughter turn to distance, And our friendship break my heart? So I push these feelings farther, Every time they start to rise. Not because they aren’t real, But because I love our lives. On those Thursday nights, Nothing has to change. You’ll still walk right next to me, Like everything’s the same. And I’ll keep this quiet love Somewhere out of sight, Because having you as a friend Is worth this silent fight.
