The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid? Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
