BUILT FOR LATER
[Intro]
They see Saturday.
They don’t see the week.
They see the plays.
They see the hits.
They see the numbers.
They don’t see what built ’em.
God gave me the ability.
My job is the work.
⸻
[Verse 1]
All offseason with the weight on the bar,
Adding five pounds, finding out who you are.
New PR — write the number down,
Celebrate for a minute, then we’re back at it now.
Dad right there for every single lift,
Watching every rep, documenting every bit.
Weight, reps, results — we know what’s changed,
Numbers don’t lie when you’re building your game.
Legs start shaking but I finish that set,
Learning young what some never get.
Strength ain’t just weight that you move off the rack,
It’s getting knocked down and deciding come back.
Now the season’s here and the schedule don’t stop,
Football field, baseball field, give everything I got.
Six days practice, Sunday back to the gym,
Everybody wants results — I’m working for them.
⸻
[Pre-Chorus]
Some kids are winning right now.
Let ’em win.
Some kids are bigger right now.
Keep working.
Some kids are faster right now.
Keep working.
I’m not racing them.
I’m building me.
⸻
[Chorus]
I’m built for later, I don’t need it right now,
Every hard day gonna mean something somehow.
Every rep, every sprint, every swing, every play,
God’s building the man while I’m building my game.
When it gets heavy, everybody looks my way,
Need somebody to change it? Put me in the play.
Pressure don’t scare me — that’s what the work was for,
When everybody needs a difference…
That’s what I’m here for.
⸻
[Verse 2]
Late afternoon and it’s time to train,
D1 player showing me another level of the game.
Footwork, hands, how my body should move,
Every little detail, got something to improve.
Run the drill once — fix the step.
Run it twice — fix the stance.
Get it wrong? Go again.
We don’t leave it to chance.
He’s teaching mechanics, he’s building my skills,
Showing me the difference between wanting and will.
How to take coaching, how to handle mistakes,
How to stay locked in when my body starts to break.
‘Cause the biggest thing I’m learning ain’t speed or strength,
It’s controlling my mind when I think I can’t.
Don’t drop my head. Don’t make an excuse.
Listen to the coaching, then put it to use.
I’m not just getting stronger.
I’m learning how to play.
I’m not just getting faster.
I’m learning how to think.
⸻
[Verse 3]
Monday through Saturday, cleats stay packed,
Football to baseball and then right back.
School day’s over but the day’s not through,
Another field, another drill, something else to improve.
Some practices good, some practices rough,
Some days my mind says I’ve done enough.
But toughness ain’t something you say when you win,
It’s what you decide when that voice kicks in.
Dad at the practice with the camera out,
Catching more than the highlights everybody talks about.
The reps that went wrong, the progress I make,
A record of the work and every step that I take.
Mom on the
