Prompt / Lyrics
Verse 1 – Our Version We say, “I would trust You… but God, You don’t know how hard this road’s been.” “I would follow… but God, I’ve got bills and wounds and broken friends.” We say, “I forgive… but God, You don’t know what they took from me.” “I believe… but God, Why’s the answer taking so long to see?” We use those two words like a wall, Like heaven owes us explanation. Our “but God” sounds small, Full of fear and hesitation. ⸻ Chorus – The Difference We say “but God” when we want control. He says “But God” and He raises the soul. We say “but God” to question the plan. He says “But God” and redeems the man. Two same words, two different doors— One doubts, one restores. ⸻ Verse 2 – Scripture’s Version They meant it for evil, but God meant it for good, Saving many lives just like He said He would. My heart and flesh may fail and fall, But God is strength when I’ve got none at all. We were dead in sin, no pulse, no breath— But God, rich in mercy, interrupted death. By grace He called us from the grave, Not by works, but love that saves. The cross looked final, the stone was sealed… But God raised Jesus, as Scripture revealed. ⸻ Bridge – The Great Reversal Rome said, “Finished.” Religion said, “Done.” Hell said, “Checkmate. We won.” But God raised Him. But God loved first. But God broke the curse. I was too far gone… but God. I was lost and undone… but God. ⸻ Verse 3 – Personal Turn I was stubborn, I was proud. I blamed Him for the thundercloud. I said, “I would change… but God, I need You to help me first.” He was patient through my doubt. He let me wrestle it all out. And when I reached the end of me, But God was there to start in me. ⸻ Final Chorus – Testimony Now I say “but God” differently. Not as doubt, but testimony. I was lost… but God. I was chained… but God. I was dead in my sin… But God made me alive again. Same two words. Different sound. One looks up. One looks down. When the story looks finished and hope feels gone, Don’t stop reading. Because somewhere heaven is writing— But God.
