I called upon the name of the Lord,

In sorrow, I lifted my cry.

“O Lord, I beseech Thee, deliver my soul,”

And mercy came down from on high.

Gracious and righteous is our God,

Our Savior, so patient and kind;

He lifted me from the snares of death—
