The Way I Was Raised

From a young age I was taught how to work, was taught to say yes ma’am and no sir,

Clean your plate and don’t made a mess, don’t ask for more and make do with less,

Read your Bible everyday, can’t have all work with no play,

Pray to God and do what he says, when you talk be a man and say it with your chest.

I grew up knowing right from wrong,

Days filled with work were hard and long,

My daddy taught me just what to do,

Don’t drink don’t smoke don’t cuss don’t chew,

Respect all women and treat them right,

Know when to talk and when to fight,

You gotta make a livin’ and work hard every day

That’s just the way, I was born and raised.

30 years later with two boys of my own,

I’ve tried to teach them all I was shown,

To be the example that I was given,

To do what’s right and make a livin’

And maybe one day when they grow old,

They’ll say their daddy was good as gold,

He raised them right and did them good

Cause that’s the way that all men should.
