Title: “Lost in the Crowd”
Emotional Storytelling Ballad (Approx. 5 Minutes)
⸻
Verse 1
It started as the perfect summer day,
A bright blue sky without a cloud in sight.
Six Flags was full of laughter and smiles,
Everything just felt right.
Me and my cousin Dylan,
Only seven and eight years old,
Walking behind our parents,
Near the Trail Road road.
We were talking… laughing… having fun…
Then in just one moment…
We looked away.
When we turned back around…
They were gone.
⸻
Verse 2
We looked to the left.
We looked to the right.
Families filled every street.
People everywhere.
Nobody looked familiar.
The roller coaster climbed the tracks…
“Click… Click… Click… Click… Click…”
Then suddenly…
“WHOOOOOOOOSH!”
“AAAAAHHHHHH!!”
Everyone screamed with excitement…
But we were screaming inside.
“Mom!”
“Dad!”
No answer.
Again…
“Mom!”
“Dad!”
Nothing.
⸻
Pre-Chorus
Music played through the park.
Kids laughed.
Games flashed bright lights.
The roller coaster rushed overhead…
“ROOOOOAAARRR… WHOOOOOOSH!”
But all I could hear…
Was my own heartbeat.
⸻
Chorus
♪ Lost in the crowd…
Nowhere to go.
Surrounded by thousands…
Feeling completely alone.
Holding on to hope…
Holding on to each other.
Praying someone…
Would help us find our way home. ♪
⸻
Verse 3
Minutes felt like hours.
Every path looked the same.
Every stranger walked past us.
Nobody knew our names.
I grabbed Dylan’s hand.
Neither of us wanted to let go.
We were scared.
We were shaking.
Trying not to cry.
Then…
A kind couple noticed us.
They saw the fear in our faces.
They walked over slowly.
“Are you boys okay?”
We both shook our heads.
“We can’t find our parents.”
They smiled kindly.
“It’s okay…
We’ll help you.”
⸻
Verse 4
They stayed beside us.
They didn’t leave us alone.
They brought us to a police officer.
He knelt beside us.
Trying to make us feel safe.
He asked,
“Do either of you know your parents’ phone number?”
Dylan quietly whispered,
“No…”
I closed my eyes.
Trying to remember.
Some of my dad’s phone number came back.
Not all of it.
Just pieces.
The officer tried…
But it wasn’t enough.
The roller coaster thundered again…
“CLICK… CLICK… CLICK…”
“WHOOOOOOOOSH!!”
Then he reached for the microphone.
⸻
Chorus
♪ Lost in the crowd…
Waiting in fear.
Listening for hope…
Hoping someone would hear.
One announcement…
One chance…
One moment…
To bring us back together. ♪
⸻
Bridge
The speaker crackled…
“Attention, please…”
“If you’ve lost two children named Kevin and Dylan…
Please come to the funnel cake shop.”
Silence.
Then waiting.
Every second felt longer.
The roller coaster screamed again.
“AAAAAHHHHHH!!”
People cheered.
But my stomach felt like it dropped.
“What if they don’t hear it?”
“What if we’re still lost?”
I kept looking through the crowd.
Then…
I saw someone running.
It was my dad.
Behind him…
My mom.
My sister.
My aunt.
My uncle.
Dylan’s brother.
They weren’t walking.
They were running.
⸻
Final Chorus
♪ Lost in the crowd…
But never forgotten.
Scared for a little while…
Loved forever.
Because a kind couple cared enough to stop.
Because a police officer never gave up.
Because our families never stopped searching.
We found our way home. ♪
⸻
Outro
They hugged us tighter than ever before.
My dad said,
“From now on…
Stay in front of us whenever we walk.”
We promised we would.
Then we all shared a warm funnel cake.
After one of the scariest moments of my childhood…
It became the sweetest ending.
Now every time I hear a roller coaster…
“Click… Click… Click…”
“WHOOOOOOOOSH!”
Or smell fresh funnel cake…
I’m reminded that even in the biggest crowd…
Kindness can lead you home. ❤️
