Consequences

I used to think that my struggle was punishment

I used to believe perfection was a requirement

I thought that every time I sinned God was mad at me

Always falling short and never able to be who I should be

Drinking and dulling my senses trying to avoid my guilt

Letting my mind wonder drying up my soul letting it wilt

Then the spirit came and I realized what it all ment

Convicting my heart changing where my time and energy are spent

Consequences reinforce convictions

Reminding us that our thoughts and actions matter

He didn’t come to protect us from worldly afflictions

He’s given us authority to build his kingdom and to obtain perfection through Christ

God knows who we are and what we’ve done

He’s known from the start that’s why he sent his son

Whatever I tried to do in my own strength could not fulfill me

But all my hardships and my downfalls are what strengthened me

They are the moments that allow me to understand

To reach out and help others who also misunderstand

Decisions may have worldly consequences even for believers

It’s how we react that truly convicts the unbelievers

I wasn’t dealt a bad hand I was handed opportunities

Opening doors to repent and serve other communities
