I Don’t Look Like What I’ve Been Through
(Track 1 – The Anthem)
Verse 1
They told me, “Maybe this just isn’t your time.”
I stared at closed doors and questioned my own mind.
I tried to make it happen close to home,
But every road I chose just felt so wrong.
I almost let disappointment write the ending,
Almost believed I wasn’t meant to win.
Then in the silence, I heard a whisper,
“Child…this is where your story begins.”
Pre-Chorus
I couldn’t see tomorrow…
I could barely see today.
But every step I couldn’t understand
God was already making a way.
Chorus
I don’t look like what I’ve been through,
Grace kept pulling me when I couldn’t pull through.
When fear said, “Stop,”
Faith said, “Move.”
When doubt said, “Quit,”
God said, “I’ll carry you.”
Every tear became a testimony.
Every mile became a prayer.
Now when I look behind me,
I can see You were always there.
I don’t look like…
What I’ve been through.
Verse 2
I remember fighting that entrance exam,
Thinking maybe I just wasn’t enough.
One part passed…
Another part failed…
Lord, this road was getting rough.
I almost settled for giving up,
Almost let frustration have the final word.
Then that same voice I’d heard years before
Spoke to my spirit once again.
“Don’t walk away.
Don’t quit now.
I’ve brought you too far
To turn around.”
So I packed my fear,
Started that car,
And headed toward Cincinnati.
Pre-Chorus
Every mile felt longer…
Every prayer felt deeper.
I wasn’t driving by confidence…
I was driving by faith.
Chorus
I don’t look like what I’ve been through,
Grace kept pulling me when I couldn’t pull through.
When fear said, “Stop,”
Faith said, “Move.”
When doubt said, “Quit,”
God said, “I’ll carry you.”
Every tear became a testimony.
Every mile became a prayer.
Now when I look behind me,
I can see You were always there.
I don’t look like…
What I’ve been through.
Bridge (Music drops to piano and light guitar.)
I remember another test…
Years before.
I wanted to walk away.
Three different times.
But something deeper than fear
Wouldn’t let me leave.
Not because I was strong…
Because God wasn’t finished.
Sometimes…
The miracle isn’t the open door.
Sometimes…
The miracle is the strength
To stay in the room
Long enough
For God to open it.
Final Chorus (Full band. Gospel choir joins.)
I don’t look like what I’ve been through!
Mercy met me where I was,
Grace carried me where I couldn’t go!
From broken dreams
To brand-new mornings,
From long highways
To answered prayers.
This is more than my story.
This is His faithfulness.
I don’t look like…
What I’ve been through.
Because grace…
Doesn’t leave people…
Where it finds them.
Outro (spoken softly over piano)
“If you’re wondering whether you should give up…
Don’t.
You don’t have to see the whole road.
Just trust God with the next mile.
One day you’ll look back…
And realize He was preparing you
Long before you knew where you were going.”
