Where The Lanterns Glow

Friends on the porch, laughin’ till dark,

Fireflies flickered like sparks in the yard.

Mama called supper from the old porch rail,

We came runnin’ through clover, hearts set sail.

I miss my hometown, I miss that old house,

Where the days rolled slow, and love spoke loud.

Time keeps flyin’, but it can’t let go

Of the pieces of me — where the lanterns glow.

The creek down the hill, cool on my toes,

That oak tree swing where the soft wind blows.

Daddy’s boots by the door, dust from the fields,

Life was simple, but every bit real.

If I could trade one modern day,

I’d hear that screen door swing and sway.
