I woke where the plum trees split the stone

Salt on my tongue, jade in my bones

Master said, “Walk the river in your skin”

So I learned to bow, then break the wind

Three thousand steps on a cliffside ledge

Bare feet steady on the needle edge

I trace my breath through the iron gate
