Pharoahs heart was broken down by night of sorrow’s cry,
He called them forth to leave the land beneath a mournful sky.
Yet freedom’s call stirred fear and rage within his hardened pride,
He swore he’d claim them back again — and so his steeds he tied.

A cloud by day before them moved, by night a flaming glow,
Jehovah marched ahead of them to guide the way they’d go.
Through barren plains and rising dunes His promise paved their stride,
Each heart was set on liberty — with God Himself their guide.

The people trembled at the shore, the tide before them high,
Yet Moses raised his staff of faith — the sea obeyed on high.
The wind blew strong, the waters split, a path of dry appeared,
Jehovah’s word had opened hope where all had once been feared.

Walls of water stood upright, the faithful crossed with awe,
Each step a sign of mercy’s might, of love in holy law.
The pillar moved behind their line, the night grew dark and wide,
Between the foe and Israel stood the angel at their side.

Then Pharaoh pressed his charge again, his chariots thundered near,

Jehovah’s hand threw judgment down — confusion seized their way,
And from the east the raging wave began its swift replay.
