[Verse 1]
I wasn’t there when the shackles hit the ground,
Wasn’t there when the auctioneer was calling out a crowd,
Didn’t forge those chains, didn’t swing that whip,
Didn’t write those laws, didn’t profit from the ship.
So don’t hand me guilt like a debt I gotta pay,
For a crime committed by a stranger generations away.
But truth cuts both ways, so I’m calling it clean:
Don’t erase what happened just to fit what you believe.
[Verse 2]
Slavery wasn’t one color, wasn’t one nation’s stain,
History’s got empires where the conquered wore chains.
Europe, Africa, Asia, ancient kingdoms, modern states,
Human beings owned humans, across centuries and dates.
But don’t twist that fact into “nothing happened here,”
American racial slavery left a legacy that’s still clear.
Both truths can stand, that’s the part we gotta learn:
You don’t heal a wound by pretending it never burned.
[Hook]
No inherited chains, no inherited blame,
Don’t build tomorrow by recycling yesterday’s shame.
Judge me by my actions, not the blood in my veins,
Words can wound, but they don’t have to become chains.
Open your eyes, let the evidence speak,
Question every narrative you were handed as a kid.
Truth ain’t a team, truth ain’t black or white,
If it’s really the truth, it survives the light.
[Verse 3]
You say “reparations,” I say, “Who gets the bill?”
For an ancestor’s decision that I never made still?
If justice means guilt can travel through the years,
Then where does that end, and who decides who’s to blame here?
And if someone’s alive, suffering from a wrong today,
Then fix that wrong today, don’t just look away.
Help the person in front of you, judge the case on its facts,
Don’t turn ancestry itself into a lifelong tax.
And racism ain’t simply words that bounce off the wall,
‘Cause words can become systems when institutions make the call.
But neither should a slur become a permanent definition
Of every stranger wearing someone else’s skin.
Don’t let hatred become the lens that you see through,
Don’t make one person’s prejudice representative of a few.
Break the cycle, don’t reverse it and call that repair,
Equality means the same standard everywhere.
[Verse 4]
So I’m not denying history, I’m demanding the whole,
Every ship, every kingdom, every stolen soul.
Every victim, every perpetrator, every documented fact,
No selective memory, no convenient edits to the past.
You want to lift the veil? Then question every side.
Don’t fear uncomfortable facts just because they collide.
The truth doesn’t need a tribe, a slogan, or a disguise.
Turn the light on history.
Then let the bullshit die.
