A dollar or two is all he needs he says
As he stands outside
The downtown skyscrapers
As he shivers from the cold
And I look away
And say
Maybe another day
And he turns away
Heartbroken again
Wondering where his next meal will be
And he goes about his walk
Hands stinging cold
The sound of the freeway is near
Cars blowing by
The bitter cold winter air tonight
Just a cup of hot soup is all he needs
But strangers only think
That he wants a 40 from the liquor store
So he walks along
Cold and alone
Hoping just for a cup of hot soup
A little shelter
A little warmth
But only hate
Fills the bitter cold air tonight
