Burn or Boil
Collectors of pain and sad tales,
don’t place all your joy in one fragile sail.
Don’t dream for a love that forever will last,
for every heart fills and empties so fast.
Don’t bare your soul to every hand,
in silence, there’s strength; you must understand.
Don’t chase the shine of a bucket so new,
label it with the growth it can bring to you.
Hold back your laughter, let joy take its dance,
for humor is yours, a personal trance.
What moves you to follow is yours to decide,
don’t over-explain, let the moment reside.
You may burn so quick as you decide it so,
or boil as slow as a cherry seed grows.
Sometimes all you need is to smile at your reflection;
you’ll see yourself when you clear that mirror on your own.
Sometimes all that you are is enough;
return what is borrowed, for love isn’t rough.
Look at your hands and know they’re strong;
you’ve carried the weight, you’ve held on so long.
You may burn so quick as you decide it so,
or boil as slow as a cherry tree grows.
Beam with smile to remember creation;
through the mirror you’ll see how you have grown.
