Solitary Confinement

It’s heavy tonight.

Heavier than usual.

I built this castle, brick by brick and stack by stack.

But now the walls are closing in, and there is no turning back.

I run the Company, but I have no company.

See the irony? It’s drowning me in luxury.

My net worth is rising, hitting an all-time high.

But my self-worth is crashing, getting ready to die.

They look at the title, they respect the name.

But nobody knows I’m losing the game.

I sit in the board room, but it’s just a bored room.

Planning out the future while I’m staring at my doom.

I balance the budget, I balance the sheet.

But I can't find the balance to stand on my feet.

Everyone’s Captain is lost at sea.

Drifting in a boat made of apathy.

I give them the vision, I sell them the dream.

But inside my head, it’s a silent scream.

Swallowed whole.

By the role.

Digging a pit.

And I’m stuck in it.

Solitary confinement in a corner office suite.

Starving for connection while I have too much to eat.

Swallowed whole.

Lost control.

Walk into the living room, but I’m the walking dead.

A million heavy silences spinning round my head.

My wife asks "How was it?", I say "Good," I tell the lie.

Because the truth is too heavy to let it learn to fly.

I’m present at the table, but I’m not present in the mind.

Leaving the best parts of myself far behind.

A ghost in a suit, a shadow on the wall.

Waiting for a phone that is never gonna call.

(Music slows to a crawl - heart monitor beep rhythm)

Success is a prison if you hold the only key.

I locked myself inside and I threw away the "me."

No one to blame.

It’s a one-man shame.

Just a moth burning up in his own damn flame.

The city lights blur, like tears on the glass.

Watching the happy people as they slowly pass.

I’d trade the paycheck, I’d trade the view.

Just to feel something real, something simple and true.

But the contract is signed, the deal is done.

I won the whole world... and I’m the lonely one.

(Rain intensifies)

The lonely one.

Swallowed whole.
