There was nowhere left to run

Black water underneath

The wind was screaming through the dark

And fear was all we breathed

We pulled against the raging waves

Till strength was almost gone

Then through the storm, across the deep

We saw You walking on

No road beneath Your feet

No bridge from shore to shore

The sea that looked impossible

Was just a floor beneath the Lord

You make a way where no road runs

You walk the waves we fear

The wind may roar, the night may fall

But still, You draw near

You tread the heights, You rule the deep

Creation knows Your name

Where I see only storm and sea

You see a road beneath Your feet

Your path went through the mighty waters

Your footprints disappeared

No sign was left to show the way

But still, You led us there

The God who stretched the heavens wide

Who walks upon the sea

Is standing in the storm tonight

And saying, “Do not fear—it’s Me”

What I call the end

Is ground beneath Your feet

The waves that rise above my head

Still bow beneath your feet

You make a way where no road runs

You walk the waves we fear

The wind may roar, the night may fall

But still, You draw near

You tread the heights, You rule the deep

Creation knows Your name

Where I see only storm and sea

You see a road beneath Your feet

If You can walk upon the water

You can walk me through this night

If the darkness cannot hide You

Then I don’t need to see the light

No footprint—still You led them

No pathway—still You came

No storm has ever risen

That does not know Your name

Over the chaos

Over the deep

Over the fear

That has hold of me

You are the God

Who walks on the sea

What overwhelms me

Is under Your feet

You make a way where no road runs

You walk the waves I fear

And when I think I’m all alone

I look—and You are here

You tread the heights, You rule the deep

Forever still the same

Where I see only storm and sea

You see a road beneath Your feet

Your way was through the waters

Though Your footprints were unseen

And the waves that I thought would bury me

Are beneath the feet of my King
