Yall might not know
But I remember Jim Crow
Fought a white boy everyday in the 5th grade
You wont gone call me no reggin
Jim Crow parents had kids
And I went to school wit em
Never started no fight
But these hands went to school wit em
But I was the teacher teaching the lesson
These hands stayed teaching class
Glynn Academy
Had a race riot cause
I got caught on stage with a lass
I think the teacher got mad
Because she thought about the love she had
Even in desegregation
Jim Crow still had a grip on the children
Who were now teaching the children they secretly called ninjas
Yeah we dealt with Jim Crow
Though we drank from the same fountain
Yeah King had a dream
But Black and white folk wasn't climbing the same mountain
The 70s and 80s were bad for parents that were Black
In the 90s they planted their seeds in mass incarceration
Prison for pushing the white man's crack
Plenty fine Black women on they back for 5 dollars
For a dime of that
Oh we know of Jim Crow
Though we drank coffee at the same counter
Every other day another police encounter
Tryna plant drugs on you
When they wasn't taking photos
Tryna lace you up or
Case you up
Halloween
Jumping out of trees raiding the hood
Mace you up
And they gave no skcuf
Loading youth up in paddy wagon trucks
Taking em to youth boot camps
For attention they can be touched
Getting life sentences
Of Ritalin
So a touch don't mean that much
From Glynn Place Mall
To Seton Hall
Preparing yall for fentanyl
Yeah we know bout Jim Crow
2026 living in a world where
Us and anybody else
Can call us saggin
But get uncomfortable when somebody says read or watch James Baldwin's
"I Am Not Your Negro"
Jim Crow is Willie Lynch simple
Make them feel so inferior
Until they make each other feel inferior
So much so til they have GOAT debates
Feeling like one has got to be better
Make them bomb their own Black Wall Street
And kill each other
Because they refuse to work together
Let them love
"Witch Better Have My Money"
While forgetting Strange Fruit
And Stormy Weather
Making us fight each other
For real on Tyson's Holy field
In Pacquiao's May weather
Ask Denise McNair
James Chaney
If we overcame
Fred Hampton
And Emmett Till
Would say we still waiting
2026 we find we still Strange Fruit
From the same hate
Jim Crow produce
Even though the internet has gone viral
With history's truth
I remember Jim Crow
Do you
Today's divisions, violence, and inequalities are the harvest of yesterday's system.
