Behind the Mask of Love

In the shadows where love used to blossom,

A fairy tale faded, now I’m left to ponder.

Once there was laughter, in a world of delight,

But behind the curtain, darkness crept in the night.

She wore a sweet smile, it hid a cruel sting,

Thought I found heaven, but hell's what she'd bring.

Memories of a woman, once tender and bright,

Now twisted and cold, like the fall's fading light.

Promises whispered, but now all I see,

The monster unveiled, and its grip over me.

This is the tale of the hidden monster,

Wrapped in deceit but she made me her sponsor.

Promises broken, I'm drowning in tears,

What started as love became my deepest fears.

In early May, she closed the door to her dreams,

While I paid the bills, she just plotted her schemes.

Mother-in-law’s kindness turned bitter and dark,

With every harsh word, she left a deep mark.

A roommate arrived, and the shadows grew long,

Verbal attacks were now a familiar song.

Starving for love while I slept through the night,

But the warmth of her touch turned cold as twilight.

This is the tale of the hidden monster,

The knife at my throat, was I fighting for air?

Mind control wrapped me in a web of despair.

But I’m a survivor, with spirit so bold,

Though my heart was shattered, I've refused to be sold.

So here’s to the strength, to rise from the pain,

To break free from shadows, rise up once again.

No more chains of silence, I’m ready to fight,

From the ashes I’ll soar, into the day’s light.
