Hushabye, little flame, London lights are low

River keeps your secrets where the cold winds go

I once sang this softly through a sheltered night

When dragons crossed the sky and turned the world to white

Now I sing it farther where the wheat fields bend

But every broken hour knows how wars can end

Sleep now, little soldier though you do not know

Your mother once learned how the night could grow
