A Little While

We didn’t get a hundred Sunday mornings,

Didn’t get a year of photographs.

Never had the time to make a lifetime,

But damn, we made the little that we had.

You came along without a warning,

Made an ordinary life feel new.

Funny how somebody can feel like home

Before you’ve even learned every room.

We only had a little while,

But you gave me a thousand reasons to smile.

And I don’t need forever to know

Some things are worth the hurt when you let ‘em go.

Maybe we were only passing through,

But I’m better for the time I spent with you.

If a little while was all that we were meant to get,

Then a little while with you

Is something I won’t regret.

More than you thought somebody could be.

Knowing love wasn’t enough to make you need me.
