[Intro – Church Choir + Static]
[Congregation clapping softly]
Sunday mornin’…
everybody dressed holy.
[Organ bends out of tune slightly]
But heaven ain’t the only thing inside the church.
⸻
[Verse 1]
🎶
Big mama shoutin’ in a purple hat,
Deacon in the back countin’ tithe stacks.
Choir sing loud while the preacher sweat,
Whole church smell like perfume and regret.
Women catch the Spirit in aisle three,
Meanwhile they husbands textin’ side pieces.
Young boys forced into suits too tight,
Learnin’ early how to fake lookin’ righteous.
Church mothers gossip after “Amen,”
Judgin’ addicts while they own sons sink.
Everybody reachin’ for salvation somehow,
Even while they drownin’ right now.
🎶
⸻
[Hook – Choir + Heavy Drums]
🎶
Sunday in hell…
Hands raised high…
Broken people singin’ lullabies.
Sunday in hell…
Still need grace…
Even saints got darkness in they face.
🎶
⸻
[Verse 2]
🎶
Gold fang preacher preach prosperity,
While his secretary cry secretly.
Church board fightin’ over power and land,
Still shoutin’ “God got a mighty plan.”
That’s the danger in religion down South—
Sometimes performance louder than truth.
Folks learn scripture before emotional health,
So pain get hidden beneath spiritual wealth.
But I ain’t mockin’ faith at all,
I seen prayer save people from fall.
I just know church full of wounded souls,
Tryna look clean while they spirit broke.
🎶
⸻
[Bridge – Spoken + Distorted Choir]
Ain’t nobody in here spotless.
Not the preacher.
Not the choir.
Not me.
🎶
Lord forgive what we pretend…
Teach broken hearts to heal again.
🎶
⸻
[Verse 3]
🎶
Maybe holiness start with honesty,
Not performin’ purity publicly.
Maybe God still sit with flawed folks first,
Especially ones aware they hurt.
Because the South done taught me this—
Grace hit hardest where the darkness is.
And if heaven only came for clean people—
Most churches would be empty.
🎶
⸻
[Final Hook – Full Choir + Orchestra]
🎶
Sunday in hell…
Still we sing…
Hope and sorrow in the same pews cling.
Sunday in hell…
Mercy reign…
Even broken saints can change.
🎶
⸻
[Outro – Organ + Thunder]
Church dismissed…
but the struggle came home with everybody.
