Prompt / Lyrics
Title: “Hold On to the Lord” (Intro – slow, piano, and soft drums) I’m not letting go of God, I’m going to hold on to God… (Choir hums softly — “Mmm, hold on...”) Verse 1 They wrestled with an angel ‘til the morning blessed their soul, A woman changed her mind — just to touch His hem and be made whole. Another gave her last, another prayed for a child to return, Just think of what He can do for me, I’ve seen my faith confirmed. Chorus (full choir swell) I’m going to hold on to the Lord, He’ll do something for me! When the dead were restored, He proved His victory. Lazarus rose at His word, Spirits set free, hearts made pure — I’m going to hold on to the Lord, He’ll do something for me! Verse 2 (soft R&B groove builds) He spoke to a woman that the world turned away, Told her everything she’d done, and she found grace that day. Oh, how I long to hear Him say, “Well done,” So I’ll keep holding on — until my work is done. Chorus (repeat – stronger, more trumpet and soprano accent) I’m going to hold on to the Lord, He’ll do something for me! When I’m sinking in the storm, His hand rescues me. He saved me from drowning, From dangers unseen — I have to believe, He can do something for me. Bridge (call and response – choir) Lead: He gave me an unconditional love — Choir: (Like no other could or would!) Lead: He came and conquered death — Choir: (He won the keys of heaven and earth!) Lead: For God so loved the world — Choir: (He gave His only Son!) Together: To save us all, to make us one! Yeah, I believe… He can do something for me! I’m going to hold on… to the Lord! He’ll do something for me! I’m not letting go of God, I’m going to hold on to God. (Choir repeats softly: “Hold on… hold on…”) Outro (fade – trumpet and choir) Just think of what He can do for me, After saving all those before me — Hold on… Oh, my soul! Hold on!
