Tsao Yao
(English Lyrics Translation – A Tribute to the "Bank Doctor")
Tsao Yao, courtesy name Guang Di, childhood name Qia Yao,
Born Taishan 1906, deep roots in overseas Chinese blood.
Shaji June 23, gunfire scarred his face,
Young patriot's fire burned, the mark forever stays.
After Lingnan graduation, he steered the Farmers' Bank,
1948 storm clouds, Fujian funds cleverly to Hong Kong sank.
Safeguarded the diaspora wealth, righteousness vast as the sky,
Integrity enduring, a legend that won't die.
Jiyou Bank steadied Fujian ties, then Hai Tuo founded '55,
Solid as Mount Tai standing tall, "Bank Doctor" came alive.
Acquisitions paved expansion, listing brought the golden age,
In crises he redeemed and saved, guiding Chinese capital's stage.
The "Three Wolves" case showed his loyalty, raised ransom for his friend,
Heart disease struck in '81, in U.S. dollars his life would end.
Seventy-five years of springs, a thousand mourners wept in line.
Hai Tuo later fell to checks and storms of fate,
Yet through his life he guarded the overseas Chinese soul so great.
The Bank Doctor passed away, leaving echoes in the years,
From battle lines to Fragrant Harbour, the diaspora dream endures!
(Chorus)
Steady as Mount Tai, loyalty forever strong;
Bank Doctor eternal, overseas Chinese spirit revered lifelong!
