Breaking Back

6AM, I’m out the door,

Barely slept, but they still want more.

Road stretched long, same old fight,

Work all day, just to really survive.

They take my hands, they take my time,

This job takes my pride, and leave me behind.

Smile in my face like it’s all okay,

But I’m drowning in the weight of yesterday.

Every step I take feels heavy, (very heavy)

Every breath I take feels numb. (Like a dead man)

Ain’t no finish line in sight,

Just a battle never won. (Can’t be a loser)

I’ve been breaking my back for a piece of a dream,

Giving my soul but they don’t see me. (Nah)

Sweat on my skin, blood in my veins,

But they only count the dollars, never count the pain. (HELL NAW)

I’ve been breaking my back just to keep the lights on,

Losing myself in the weight of it all.

If I fall, would they even care?

Or would they just find someone else to stand there?

Clock hands move but I feel the same,

Numb to the cycle, sick of the game.

They call me strong, but I’m breakin’ inside,

Holdin’ it in, just tryna survive.

I give ‘em my hours, they take ‘em with ease,

They climb up high while I’m stuck on my knees.

Swallow my pride, choke down the pain,

Wonderin’ if I’ll ever see change.
