Oh, the weight of this flag, can't you see?

A symbol of freedom that’s shackled me.

I stand here in silence, hand over heart,

But inside, I’m a battle, a war torn apart.

These streets filled with shadows, whispers of pain,

While justice looks blind, it’s a merciless game.

They’re chasing my dreams with their sirens and lights,

A loathsome reminder of sleepless nights.

I’m holding my breath, I’m caught in the cross,

Each day feels like coin toss where justice is lost.

Why would I pledge my allegiance to a flag?

When underneath, it’s a heavy, ragged rag.

With every injustice I cry out in vain,

This system's been broken, but I’m not your shame.

You tell me to stay straight, walk the line like a saint,

But the walls are closing in, and the hope starts to faint.

I watch as they harass, they take all that I hold,

Weight of your insignia feels heavy and cold.

With cuffs on my wrist, and the truth in the dark,

Plead my case with a wound, in a world that’s so stark.

I scream for my freedom, just wanting a chance,

To rise from the ashes and join in the dance.
