Late at night I sat there lonely, In the dark with thoughts that tore.
Then a tapping, soft and ghostly, At my shadow-covered door.
Whispered dreams of lost Lenore, Echoed back to me once more.
Through the window swept a raven, Black as night from distant shore.
Perched above me, still and solemn, Spoke a single word: "Nevermore"
Every hope I tried to gather, Every prayer I sent ashore,
Met that same unchanging answer-
"Nevermore... forevermore.
Now its shadow fills my chamber, Dark and heavy on the floor.
And my heart beneath that darkness Shall be lifted-nevermore.
