In a still backwater, devils dwell,
In the soul's deep core, they're quick to swell.
From dawn till dusk, we make our peace,
Forgetting the people we used to be.
In one swift moment, they breach the shore,
To their own tune, they make us dance once more.
In a single voice, they whisper, "Do it!"
And we find we cannot refuse it.
And that "it" — just a step… just a cry…
Just a broken bridge… just someone's frightened eye…
And the whole world REELED! And turned away in fright!
Branded as "monsters," we were left alone.
All strength depleted, we made peace with their might,
Locked ourselves in, fleeing this love we had known!
From this love! From this light!
We became shadows, our secret now set in stone.
Years have now passed. I've become that still pool.
People no longer see the devils in me.
They talk to me, trust me, think I'm gentle and cool…
But they're still here with me. We live in harmony.
And the world has accepted me! Forgotten my sin!
And I smile back at them again… again… again…
But in a still backwater, devils DWELL!
In the soul's deep core, they're quick to SWELL!
From dawn till dusk, we live with them now,
REMEMBERING THE PEOPLE WE WERE, somehow!
The people we were — pure and young…
…before we let them in.
...still backwater.
