Prompt / Lyrics
Jack and Jill went up the hill To fetch a pail of water Jack fell down and broke his crown And Jill came tumbling after. Up Jack got and home did trot As fast as he could caper; Went to bed to mend his head With vinegar and brown paper. Jill came in and she did grin To see his paper plaster Mother, vex’d, did whip her next For causing Jack's disaster. Jack and Jill went up the hill To fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown, And Jill came tumbling after. Then up got Jack and said to Jill, As in his arms he took her, “Brush off that dirt for you’re not hurt, Let’s fetch that pail of water.” So Jack and Jill went up the hill To fetch the pail of water, And took it home to Mother dear, Who thanked her son and daughter. Did he grab the pail, or bail on the chore? Ran home clutchin’ his head, can’t tell no more. He went up for the water, came down seeing red No one knows if he carried the pail, or just his head. The rhyme leaves a riddle, the tale left unsaid
