## Song Generation Modes

### Smart Mode

Smart Mode generates a complete song from a natural language description. The AI creates lyrics, chooses a style, and produces the track automatically.

**How to use:**
1. Select Smart Mode on the Generate screen
2. Write a song description (mood, theme, story, or idea)
3. Click Generate

**Example prompts:**
- "I'm celebrating my 5th anniversary with my girlfriend Alice. We met in college. My favorite memory is watching the sunset at the beach."
- "I'm feeling nostalgic about my childhood in a small town, playing in the fields with friends."

**Tips:**
- Be specific: detailed descriptions produce better results
- Avoid copyrighted content
- Experiment with different prompts

### Custom Mode

Custom Mode gives full control over the song. Users write their own lyrics, choose a music style, and set a title.

**How to use:**
1. Select Custom Mode on the Generate screen
2. Write lyrics (optionally using meta tags like [Verse], [Chorus])
3. Toggle Instrumental Mode if you want music without vocals
4. Write a Style of Music description
5. Write a title
6. Click Generate

**Important:** Do not use artist names or copyrighted lyrics. The generation may fail.

## Meta Tags

Meta tags are song structure instructions placed inside square brackets within lyrics. They tell the AI how to structure and sing the song.

### Verse and Chorus

The main building blocks. Verses are rhythmic and restrained; choruses have more melody and energy.

- `[Chorus]`: Repeats the core hook

Add descriptive words to guide singing style:
- `[Sad Verse]`
- `[Happy Chorus]`
- `[Rapped Verse]`
- `[Powerpop Chorus]`

**Note:** Lyrics are stronger than meta tags. The lyric structure, song pattern, and Style Prompt are stronger influences than tags alone.

### Pre-Chorus and Bridge

Transition sections that break the main verse/chorus pattern.

- `[Pre-Chorus]`: Builds anticipation before the chorus
- `[Bridge]`: A contrasting section anywhere in the song

Descriptive tags also work:

### Song Structure Tags

- `[Intro]`: Unreliable; try `[Short Instrumental Intro]` instead
- `[Hook]`: A repetitive phrase or instrumental; try repeating a short line 2-4 times
- `[Break]`: A few bars where vocals go silent
- `[Percussion Break]`
- `[Interlude]`: Creates an instrumental section

- `[Outro]`: Primes the song to end
- `[Refrain]`: Gets more creative wrapping up the song
- `[Big Finish]`: May change melody or tempo for a climax

### Instrumental Tags

For instrumental sections without vocals:

**Stay in genre:** A [Bass Drop] makes sense in EDM but not in acoustic guitar music. Describe instruments in the Style Prompt if you want to use them in meta tags.

**Experimental:** Lines of punctuation only (`. .! .. .!`) may force short instrumental solos. Onomatopoeic words sometimes trigger instruments.

Control the singing voice and style:

**Gender:** Voice gender can be described in the Style Prompt, though not always reliable.

### Multiple Vocals

Songs can have multiple vocalists using voice meta tags:

1. Define vocalists: `[Voice 1: Panz]`, `[Voice 2: Keisha]`
2. Assign to sections: `[Verse 1][Panz]`, `[Chorus][Keisha]`
3. Create dialogue by alternating tags within sections

Zona uses credits to generate songs. Three types:

### Promotion Credits
- Do not expire
- No subscription needed
- Earned from events or registration
- Consumed first

### Subscription Credits
- Included with subscription
- Expire at end of billing cycle (do not carry over)
- Consumed after promotion credits

### Lifetime Credits
- Do not expire
- Require active subscription to use
- Purchased as top-up
- Consumed last

**Priority:** Promotion → Subscription → Lifetime. If all credits are insufficient, generation will not proceed.
